A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.,

Little Flower in Evergreen for Maedel Firmin Turner,
age 91, who passed away on Thursday, September 27,
2007.

Maedel was a native of Evergreen but lived most of her
adult life in Bunkie where she raised her five
children. She was devoted and generous to her children
and their families and will be sadly missed. In
addition to her immediate family, Maedel touched the
lives of many in the Bunkie area. As matriarch of the
Turner and Firmin families, she was a mother and
grandmother figure for most of the Turner and Firmin
brothers and sisters and their decedents. She also
influenced and touched the lives of many of Bunkie's
children through her baby-sitting service. These
children also became part of her extended family.
Immediate family survivors include her daughters,
Marie Bell and her husband, Tom of Forest Hill and
Cheryl Villemarette; her husband, Eddie of Opelousas;
her son, James Turner and his wife, Diane of Breaux
Bridge, as well as nine grandchildren and fifteen
great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of
extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie;
daughters, Janet Turner and Lorraine Cohran Valois;
her parents, Ambrose and Celeste Firmin; brothers,
Esley and Blume Firmin and sister, Lita Wilson
Gauthier.
Though she had a tremendous capacity to love many,
three people - her daughter, Cheryl and grandsons,
Damon and David, occupied a special place in her heart
and will forever be her "special babies."
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Cohran, Damon
Turner, Tommy and Jimmy Bell, Karl Doucet,
great-grandsons, Adam, Benjamin and Jason Bell and her
adopted grandson, Chuck Normand.
Gift bearers will be granddaughters, Donna Robinson,
Sloane Turner and Theresa Greer. Reader will be Nicole
Bell.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to
the nurses, staff and administration of Senior Village
and Prompt Succor Nursing Homes and Louisiana Hospice.
A very special thanks goes to the Marianite Sisters of
Holy Cross at Prompt Succor for their spiritual
