native of Bunkie, he died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at
his home. He was 79 and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on
Monday, Nov. 3, from 1 p.m. until religious service
at 1:45 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Jeri
Keller; daughter, Donna K. Ashcroft and husband
Steve; three sons, Mike and wife Pam Keller, Stephen
and wife De Jeanne Keller and Jason and wife Joan
Keller; a sister, Elanor Nelson and husband Hyland;
a brother, Ardie and wife Gail Keller; and 14
grandchildren, Mike Keller, Liz Keller, Adam
Ashcroft, Alex Ashcroft, Austin Ashcroft, Brighton
Keller, Coco Keller, Stephen Keller Jr., Lele
Keller, Katie Keller, Meme Keller, Wil Keller, Bert

William (Bill) Pearson will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
November 1, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church in Bunkie with
Rev. John Calbert officiating. Burial will be in Salem
Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of
Progressive Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Williams (Bill) Pearson, 87, died in Rapides Regional
Medical Center on Friday, October 24, 2008.
He was a member of the First St. Paul Baptist Church of
Bayhill, La. and served as Deacon Board Chairman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sim and Mattie
Patterson Pearson, three brothers, two sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth
McGlory Pearson of Bunkie; two daughters, Janis P.
Alfred of Bunkie, Stephanie P. Butler and husband Alvin
of Alexandria; one son, Donaldson Juneau of Opelousas;
one sister, Betty Jamerson of Bunkie; six grandchildren;
eleven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Vivien Glankler Voelker
Mrs. Vivien Glankler Voelker died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the age of 78 following a very courageous battle with kidney failure. She joined her Lord, her husband of 52 years C.A. Voelker and their son Gus Voelker.
"You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever." Psalm 16:11
She was born on December 9, 1929 in Alexandria to Gene and Mildred Glankler.
She is survived by her brother Gene Glankler and wife Helga, sister "Mickey" Glankler Bott and husband Fritz, brother, Darrel Paul Glankler and wife Lila in North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was affectionately known as "Bea" by her family and will be dearly missed by her six children, daughter Valerie Munson, son, Darrel Voelker and wife Polly, daughter Leslie Kinney, son Triesch Voelker, son Charles Voelker and wife Liz, and daughter Ellen and husband Mike DiMaria; nine grandchildren, Leigh Munson Neri and Mike, Robert Munson and Sarah, Jonathan Kinney, Michael, Claire, and Sarah Kathryn DiMaria, John and Charlie Voelker,Gus Voelker; three great grandchildren, Andrew and Alexander Neri and Jackson Munson.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Glankler, Kemper Todd, Jonathan Kinney, Michael DiMaria, and John and Charlie Voelker. Honorary pallbearer is Robert Munson.
"Bea" lived a life of love and devotion to her family, friends, her church, her faith, and her Lord. The family is eternally grateful to her special caregiver family; Eloise Ducote, Dianna McGee, Daisy Campbell, and Brenda Bradley and the friends and staff at The Bailey House.
Visitation at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie Wednesday, October 22 from 5 to 8:30 pm with a Vigil at 6 p.m. and Thursday, October 22 from 8 to 10:45.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Burial will be in Pythian Cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Washington, D.C.,
where she served in
the Naval Liaison
Office to Congress.
She was honorably
discharged from the
Navy in May 1953.

long career as a

Robert L. "Bob" Laborde, 73, who
passed away peacefully at home
amongst his family on Saturday,
August 9, 2008.
Interment will follow in Fountain
Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
The Rev. Monsignor DeRouen, pastor
of Cathedral of St. John Evangelist,
will conduct the funeral service.
Mr. Laborde was born August 6, 1935,
and was raised in Bunkie, La. R. L.,
as he was known there, moved to
Lafayette in 1957, where he was a
teacher at Hamilton Training School.
In 1958, he started working as a
sales manager for Acme Brick
Company, where he retired after 47
years. He was a member of Acadian
Home Builders Association and
ushered at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Bob's greatest joy was having his
family at his home for meals. His
hobbies were hunting, fishing and
watching television.
Survivors include two daughters,
Brenda LeBlanc and her husband, C.
J., and Cindy MacDonald, all of
Youngsville; one son, Keith Laborde
and his wife, Irene, of Exton, Pa.;
and three grandsons, Lee and Kyle
MacDonald, both of Youngsville, and
Phillip Laborde, of Exton, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Beverly Riche' Laborde; and
his parents, Dauthier Laborde, of
Mansura, and the former Anita Watts,
of Hessmer.
The family requests that visiting

Richardson on June 28, 1935 in Oxford, Kansas.
Patti was a 1953 graduate of Bunkie High School and a
former member of the Marksville Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter,
Maryann Chenevert; and a son, Dana R. Chenevert.
Survivors include her loving and caring family of three
sons, Lamont Anson Chenevert and friend Suzie Benedict

Billeaud Piper, 63, a resident of Annapolis since 1991,
died of melanoma cancer April 23 at Johns Hopkins
University Hospital surrounded by her family after a
long illness.
Mrs. Piper was born June 3, 1944, in
Alexandria, Va., to the late Willianna Duffy and Joseph
Billeaud Jr. She graduated from Bunkie High School in
Louisiana in 1962 and attended Dominican College of New
Orleans.
She served as a legislative aide to
the late Congressman Speedy O. Long of Louisiana, during
which time she met her husband. She also worked as an
inspector for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms from 1976 to 1995 in St. Louis, Mo., and
Baltimore, and retired in 1995.
She then formed Piper, Piper and
Associates, a financial security investigation firm.
She loved living in Annapolis and was
an avid supporter of her community. As a member of the
Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, she coined the name
of the "Annie Awards" in 2000, which annually recognizes
local artistic achievement. She was a proud member of
the Severn Town Club, St. Mary's Catholic Church, the
Louisiana State Society and the Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms Association of Retirees. She also volunteered
for the Annapolis Opera and Maryland Democratic Party.
She was Ward One Association Block
Captain and served as chairman for many fundraising
events for local charitable organizations, including
Hospice of the Chesapeake and Maryland Hall for the
Creative Arts.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling and
spending time with her granddaughters.
Survivors include her husband of 41
years, Daniel R. Piper Sr.; one son, Daniel Piper Jr. of
San Antonio; two daughters, Ann Taylor of Austin, Texas,
and Erin Piper-Ruiz of Annapolis; two brothers, William
Billeaud of Mandeville, La., and Richard Billeaud of
Austin; one sister, Elizabeth McInnis of Ocean Springs,
Miss.; and three granddaughters.
A memorial mass will be offered at 9
a.m. May 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of
Gloucester St. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blood, age 60,
of St. Landry, passed away peacefully in her sleep on
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in her residence, surrounded by
her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Roy and
Josephine Pommier Douget; and one grandson, Trevor
Vidrine.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Rev. Roger
Dale Blood, Sr. of St. Landry; two sons, Roger Dale
Blood, Jr. and his wife Frances of Clearwater and their
children Tiffany, Elizabeth, and Emma, and Joshua Blaine
Blood and his wife Heather of Bunkie and their son
Nicholas; two daughters, Tammy Blood Vidrine and her
husband Paul of Lone Pine and their children Ashton and
Michaela, and Cindy Melissa Blood Bernal and her husband
Phillip of St. Landry and their children Veronica and
Nathaniel; two brothers, Roy Douget, Jr. of
Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Paul Sapp of Gilliam; three
sisters Dalpheney Douget Thorton of Bayou Chicot, Anna
Douget Ortego of Turkey Creek, and Barbara Douget Book
of McNary; her stepmother Barbara Douget of Belcher; and
a host of relatives and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his earthly father, Sterling Caudel Bain, Sr. &nb sp;
Those left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Georgia Anne Bain; two sons, William George Bain and his wife Candace, David Lyles Bain and his wife Janna; and a daughter, Emily Bain Woodard and her husband Ashley; beloved grandchildren, Luke, Nick, Parker and Rebecca; his mother, Mary Lou Lyles Bain; four brothers, Sterling Caudel Bain, Jr., John Hadley Bain, Edgar Burnham Bain, and Roger Wayne Bain, and one sister, Louanne Bain.
Bill was born in Bunkie on January 25, 1951 to Sterling Caudel and Mary Lou Lyles Bain. He was a lifelong resident of Bunkie and a graduate of Bunkie High School and LSU with a degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management. Mr. Bain was a member of First Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Important to Bill during his lifetime were God, family, including his wife, children, dear grandchildren, his mother, sister, and brothers; the family farm, where he considered it a privilege to work each day side by side with his brothers, sons and nephews, and his church family. He enjoyed fishing, but his favorite pastime was duck hunting with his family and friends at Oklahoma Plantation. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially enjoying the pleasures of taking them for rides on the farm in search of wildlife. His faith in God and his love for his fellowman were remarkable. His generous spirit, his integrity, and his strength of character were the hallmarks of his daily life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bill truly lived his faith and was a wonderful family man. He was the best of us all. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understand.

Pallbearers will be his nephews: Ben, Brian, Jake, Tommy, Johnny, Jared, Andrew and Hudson.
