Back Issues:  101

This Wednesday at 7 PM
, PBS begins a 3-part series on "Greeks:
Crucible of Civilization".  Please have your Junior and Senior High
students watch this.  They will learn   who we are,  and more
importantly, why we are this way.

++++++++++++++=  Good heavens  !! Tina Turner in her sixties---- I couldn't move like that when I was 10.

++++++++++++++++  Live Oaks the beautiful ante bellum home on Hwy 71 North, was the home of Mary McCoy.  Solomon Northrup wrote of playing the fiddle there at a Christmas party.  She was known as the Belle of the Bayou.  She must have been a charmer, she married 5 times.  She was grandmother to Mrs.  Burton Dupuy of Bunkie and "Dirty Helm", an LSU football star.  He got the nickname, not because of his playing style, but because his uniform was always dirtier than the  rest of the teams'.  He really worked at it.

++++++++++++++++++  A good place to wonder on pretty weekends is New Iberia.  It has Avery Island and the Tabasco factory and store; Jefferson Island and the beautiful Live Oaks Gardens; Weeks Hall and the wonderful Konriko Rice Mill, the oldest rice mill in the United States.  You'll see a nice film and their store has all kinds of cuties for sale.
Weeks Hall, near downtown New Iberia, was the first private home  in the
United States to be purchased by the National Trust for Historic
Preservation.  It is beautifully kept and the tour guides are most
knowledgeable.  My pet in New Iberia is the Joe Jefferson home and the
Live Oaks gardens.

++++++++++++++++  The burning question:  can LSU get into the NCAA March Madness??  They've been so erratic--- had the lid snapped on them at Miss State then bludgeoned Ala. If they do get in the tournament, am afraid they won't go farther than  the first  round.

++++++++++++++++++++++  Rotarys' 75th Anniversary meeting was so nice.  They have a lot of fine examples to live up to.  Surely no other club has the perfect attendance record set by Bunkies'  Curry Elliott.

+++++++++++++++++++++  Do  you know how our parish towns
got their names ???   Think about it, more on that next week.

+++++++++++++=  Off  the 'Net;
"You know you're from La. if ------the 4 seasons in your year are duck, deer, crawish and Mardi Gras".
