Subject: OFF THE TRACKS

Do you know why porches were always painted blue?  It was supposed
to keep the flies away.  And grandma's kitchen was painted apple green
because it was supposed to be soothing to the nerves. (And to keep her
from thinking about such dreadful things as a career and voting).

++++++++++++++++++++  Some of the other projects the  parish-wide strategic planning committee talked about promoting as  tourist attractions were:  hunting and fishing availability;  the local  festivals; ag tours; RV camping; Mardi Gras celebrations combined on one  weekend ( "I Love a Parade Weekend"); and bird watching.  "Birding" is a  fast growing hobby in the U. S.... long been prominent in England.  For  sure, chere, we got dem birds.  We need to have better access to the  places the birds haunt, like our National Preserves.

++++++++++++++++++++  Have you read any of the  Mitford series books??  Trust me on this one, you'll love them.   Refreshing, and so small town.

++++++++++++++++++++  We have a German couple in the
parish who are selling ads for parish and city maps.  Please be generous
and respond to them.... we need maps badly, give out about 1000 a year.

++++++++++++++++++++  Recently I saw where it was the
anniversary of Howard Hughes death.  Those of us who were here then
remember that Hughes Tool Co. had an office  in Eola during our "oil
boom",  30's and 40's.  Howard Hughes often came to the Blue Moon to eat  supper.  I remember him standing on the edge of the dance floor watching  us.  Tall and skinny, he never changed expression, just stood there.   Strange guy.

++++++++++++++++++++  The depot lamps are so great  looking.  Perhaps it's not exactly as would like to have the depot  done.... but it is getting done and looks so much better.  Can't wait  for it to open,  probably June.  CeCe says she can't handle moving and  getting straight AND the Corn Fest.  She has a point, there. The Chamber  will be asking for volunteers to handle the visitors during the day, so  think on it.  Sounds like fun.

++++++++++++++++++++  The Corn Fest shirts are in and so snazzy looking.  Bright yellow for  the millenium (haven't heard that word in a while).  I love it when the  committee chooses a colored shirt... to see so many people on the  festival  grounds, all wearing the same color... adds to the fun flavor.   Off the 'Net:  Big shots are only little shots who kept on shooting.   Christopher Morley
