Ertestine Fisher Slater

Funeral services for Ertestine Slater will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Bunkie with the Rev. LaMon Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Fellowship Cemetery in Columbia.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mrs. Slater, 82, of Bunkie, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Bayou Vista Nursing Home.

Ertestine was born November 30, 1927 in Columbia. She moved to Bunkie in 1953 and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Bunkie where she served the Lord in many capacities for the remainder of her life.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Mae Patterson Fisher; her father, Everett Fisher; an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James B. Slater, Sr. of Bunkie; two sons, Jimmy Slater and his wife Theresa of Alexandria, and Michael Slater and his wife Charlene of Alexandria; her daughter, Shirley Rachal and her husband Robert of Grand Cane; fourteen grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren.

Pallbearers will include: James Michael Slater, Timothy Slater, David Slater, Ron Slay, Billy Lonsberry, and Christopher Rachal.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home.
