Bunkien State Trooper Phillip S. Tagliarino

Phillip Tagliarino is drunken driver's worst nightmare.  This Avoyelles Parish trooper leads state in DWI arrests.  His work schedule hangs on the wall of an Avoyelles Parish bar.  A graduate of the BHS class of 1989, Tagliarino has punched about every educational and experience ticket to become the Louisiana State trooper he is today. His latest accomplishments were recently highlighted by numerous media coverage.  The Alexandria Town Talk featured his story in an article written March 22, 2002

His sister, JoElla, introduced us to Johnny with an onslaught of emails like we have never seen before.  Read on for the rest of the story as told by JoElla Tagliarino Bott.

Phillip was born February 23, 1971.  He is married to the former Gina Mayeux and presently resides in the Fifth Ward area of Avoyelles Parish.  He is the father of two girls, Allie who is 12 and  Rachel who is 9.

Phillip attended Bunkie Elementary, Bunkie Middle and Bunkie High schools, graduating in May 1989.  Following his graduation Phillip was employed part time with the Bunkie Police Department and for 6 years was a  full  time Deputy with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Department.

Phillip was enrolled in the Louisiana State Police Academy in December 1995 and graduated in March 1996.  He was a previous graduate of the Alexandria Police Academy and since being with the Louisiana State Police has satisfactorily completed  th Accident Reconstruction Course and Drug Recognition Course.

Phillip is son of Johnny & Ruth Tagliarino and grew up on Walnut Street with his sister, JoElla Tagliarino Bott, presently a resident of Houston, TX.  His father retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer and from the Louisiana Department of Revenue as the Collection Manager, Alexandria Region.  His mother retired from Bunkie Elementary School where she was the school secretary.

Phillip was all boy growing up.  He played baseball and football and also loves to hunt and fish.  Our father is a diehard sports fanatic who also coached and umpired. I can remember 2 TV's in our living room at once!!!  Our parents brought us to many LSU football games and Houston Astro games.  Nothing like LSU football and Mama's fried chicken!

He has lots of lifelong friends due to church and school, many whom still live in the area.  We belong to First Baptist Church, Bunkie, LA.  He was part of the RA's and sang in the choir.  He attended many summer camps growing up.

Phillip and I were both adopted and grew up knowing that we were special children.  We were so blessed with wonderful parents who have stood beside us through thick and thin.  Everyone loves our parents.  I can remember us wanting to prick our fingers so we could mix our blood to be "real" brother and sister.  They couldn't have picked a better person for me to have as a sibling.

I am very proud of his accomplishments.  Just to know that he saved one life due to a drunk driver is so wonderful.  We should all realize that a designated driver is a must!!!  No matter what!!!  Parents should let their children know that if they do drink and cannot drive that they will pick them up wherever they are, no questions asked.  Our parents always told us this and they meant it.  Some of us learn this lesson the hard way.
