CHAMBER CHIRPS

March 30, 2006
Dear Bunkien,  I seldom voice presumptions about what the Bunkie Chamber writes or doesn't write.  I seldom do anything else than cut and paste and publish what they send.  Today.......I feel as though this Bunkie Tattler can be the catalyst for jumping on the band wagon so to speak.  I strongly feel this Bunkie Tattler can be the one chance we have in supporting the Bunkie Chamber in making this upcoming Corn Festival more enjoyable and memorable than any other.  Show the Bunkie Chamber the power of the Bunkie Tattler-----Show the resident Bunkiens the power of Bunkiens-in-exile.   The very best way you can help from afar is to Join-The-Bunkie-Chamber.  The minimum membership is $50.00 a year........................Who says you can't give more???

I know you can't be there to help, but I also know your financial support will help the Chamber 'Gitter-Done'.  I am going to be more active in supporting the Bunkie Chamber.  I am going to be more responsive to their objectives and I'm going to feel better about the whole thing.  I think about the CornFest in it's Hay-Day" when so many were involved....Let's bring those days and good times back to Bunkie as we have for many other events...  Make yourself feel better this Spring and join the Chamber.  Thank You,  Dale-------    Contact Phyllis (318) 346-2575 ~ bunkiechamber@kricket.net  .

I received an email from Mr. Bill Hunt who is the author of the book:  "The Last Witness from a Dirt Road"  Mr. Hunt is originally from Bunkie and grew up on the Shirley Plantation in the forties.  His book is a coming of age story and experiences of a youth who is on the threshold of adulthood on a Louisiana sugar cane plantation.  His book can be purchased at Steele's Florist and City Drug Store.  Mr. Hunt will be coming to Bunkie around the 18th of April and will be speaking at the Rotary Club on the 19th.  If anyone is interested in having Bill as a guest speaker, please let me know.  He plans on donating his author's proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club of America hopefully to establish one in Bunkie in the future.

The Louisiana Corn Festival is fast approaching and will be held on June 9, 10 & 11th.  Any donations or help is greatly appreciated.  Most people only see the Corn Festival on the weekend it is held.  It takes lots of work and money to put on a festival this large.  We try to keep our festival a "no charge" festival so that everyone can enjoy it.  The Corn Festival is one of the few "free festivals" in the state.  We must depend on donations so many businesses in the area have generously given us.  Because of the rising costs of insurance and the many services that are necessary,  we find that it is harder and harder each year to make the festival meet its budget.  So any donation large or small is greatly appreciated.  It is not a money making project, we just make our start up for the next year and help make some small improvement in the grounds or in the town.  The Corn Festival is what puts Bunkie on the map.  So think about supporting Our Festival with a donation or volunteering to work."
